The ECIA Board of Directors would like to thank all Committee Members for the time and dedication they have given to the Eldorado Community.  We look forward to another great year and wish you all a safe holiday season.

A timely message from the Fire and Rescue Service

From: KenPinter@aol.com
Hello all. Hope you had a great holiday.

Some of you know that I am a member of the El Dorado Fire and Rescue
Service. Tonight we were called to a water leak. The water line to the house froze and broke in the garage at a point before the turn off valve. Consequently, we had to try to turn off the water at the meter. It took a long time to find the meter and shutoff due to the lot size (a corner lot), and the snow. In the mean time, the water was still gushing. The occupant was a house sitter and did not know the location of the meter.

Water meters are typically found in holes in the ground and sometimes on the surface. They will be near the read and possibly near the gas meter. In any case, if there is snow on the ground, they can be difficult to find. They are supposed to be mar ked with blue flags but that is not always the case.
So, I want to remind you to do the following:

Take precautions to prevent water line freeze.
Know where the main water cut off valves are in your home...also gas and electricity.
Know where your outside water meter/shutoff valve is and be sure it is  marked.
Buy one of those shut off "keys" (looks like a big "T" about 4 feet long)
because the meter will be below the frost line, about 3 - 4 feet down.

Also...
Keep fire hydrants near you clear and accessible.
Check your smoke detector batteries...and your chimneys.

Please feel free to forward this email as you see fit. Happy New Year.
Ken
